Estiatorio Milos

Discreet zoned background music system for Mayfair restaurant

The Client

Widely celebrated as a pioneer of the Hellenic food scene, renowned chef Costas Spiliadis introduced North America to high-end seafood from the islands of Greece, opening the first of his Milos locations in Montreal in 1979. Since then his restaurant collection has expanded to include New York, Athens, Las Vegas, Miami and London.

Milos London is situated at 1 Regent Street in the heart of Mayfair in a beautiful Grade II listed building. Since opening its doors in 2015, Milos London has become something of an institution, offering diners an unparalleled Mediterranean seafood experience in a delightful setting.

Using the freshest ingredients and following an edict of perfect simplicity to preserve each ingredient’s distinct flavour and nutritional value, Estiatorio Milos promises to give birth to new flavours with traditional spirit.

Project Brief

We were invited by TEI Electrical Contractors to design, supply and install a very high-quality background music solution for Estiatorio Milos, one that was to be heard but not seen, across three floors including the basement, ground floor and mezzanine.

The brief specified the loudspeakers should not be visible for this project.

System Solution

As the brief was for  an invisible yet very high quality background music system, we selected Amina NXT in-wall loudspeakers which are designed to be mounted in the walls below the plaster surface – they are literally ‘buried’ beneath a layer of plaster, thus rendering them completely invisible.

Installation of Amina NXT ‘invisible’ loudspeakers requires great care and extremely precise planning; mounting them too deep beneath the fresh plaster surface reduces the achievable sound levels from the loudspeaker, whilst positioning them too close to the surface of the fresh plaster can cause the plaster to crack when the loudspeaker is switched on and produces vibration. It is therefore essential to calculate the installation depth of the loudspeaker and the thickness of the plaster overlaying them with millimetre precision.

Audio to the Amina NXT loudspeakers is provided by Cloud CXV425 ‘transformerless’ amplifiers in the dining areas on the ground floor, the private dining room and dining area on the mezzanine floor.  Additional Cloud amplifiers provide audio to micro-sized JBL Control-24 ceiling speakers in the foyer and washroom areas.

Cloud RL-1 volume controls allow staff discreet adjustment of audio levels as required.

End Game

“Sound Division is a specialist AV provider for high-class restaurant, hotels and venues throughout London. The project at Estiatorio Milos highlights the care and the attention to detail required to achieve a successful installation in a prestige venue. Our experience with audio systems is one thing, but it is the seamless experience and quality of what we deliver as a whole that keeps our clients coming back to us time and again.” — David Graham, Sound Division
