Cache Cache, Covent Garden
The Client
As the name would suggest, Cache Cache is designed to be hidden. Billed as London’s most secret restaurant/club, Cache Cache is an exclusive 1920s-themed venue serving a range of luxurious cocktails and pan-Asian food.
Tucked away beneath the Piazza in Covent Garden, entry to Cache Cache is guest list only with reservations strictly via WhatsApp. Indeed, just finding the restaurant proves to be half the fun for visiting diners. Once in, guests find themselves in a maze of cosy vaulted rooms with exposed brick walls and comfortable seating for an intimate dining experience. Opulent velvet drapes create private booths for those looking for a complete exclusivity. The bar area is dominated by wall-to-wall mirror tiles and lush greenery for a slightly exotic feel. Fragrance from the exclusive French perfume house, Fragrance Du Bois, adds to the heady prohibition-style atmosphere. A bijou dance floor next to the DJ booth at the front gives diners the opportunity to ease from dinner date to club night, extending the fun into the early hours.
Project Brief
Sound Division was asked to provide a premium multi-zone audio system capable of transitioning between high quality, low level background music with independent volume control for each of the lounge areas, front and rear, the bar area, the DJ booth seating area and washrooms, and higher volume, higher energy output for when the DJ comes on after dinner.
System Solution
For the DJ booth areas, lounge areas and bar area, Sound Division selected a range of Vue Audiotechnik i-Class loudspeakers designed for crystalline foreground music output in a compact format. These are supplemented by Vue Audiotechnik single 12-inch subwoofers in each zone to achieve higher sound pressure levels for visiting DJ sets as required. “Vue’s i-Class range is a good choice for this type of application that requires a bit more than just background music,” says Sound division’s David Graham. “They offer great sound quality in a compact, easy-to-install format at a competitive price point.”
Audio signals, routed via the BSS BLU-100 networked audio processor, are controlled by staff and management via an Apple iPad® with a custom designed control interface. This allows Cache Cache personnel the convenience of walking into each zone and adjusting sound levels as required.
End Game
“The atmosphere of Cache Cache is one of the things that makes it so special – and music is a key element of that. We wanted a high quality sound system capable of delivering a premium audio experience for our guests, with local zone control. Sound Division delivered exactly what we asked for, and we know we can count on them for rapid and efficient service. The sound is an integral part of the Cache Cache experience, and we’re delighted with the results.” — Alexandre Zibi, Cache Cache.
